What’s in the course?
This course is designed for folks just starting out playing the fiddle by ear or who want to transition from reading tunes to learning them by ear.
You follow a meticulously designed series of ear training exercises that will help you perceive simple melodic phrases and then play them back on your fiddle. It’s an ear opener!
During the course, you will have access to a web app specifically designed for melodic, call and response ear training as well as a detailed lesson plan to follow.
Additionally, you won’t be alone. Although this is an online course, you will be able to connect with Reel Ear director, Mattie O’Boyle for a free, 20 minute, weekly video meeting. These meetings serve to answer any questions you may have as well as for Mattie to track your progress and help tailor the course contents to your particular needs.
You will be expected to practice the course material for at least 30 minutes a day for 30 days. In just four weeks of focus and training, you will jump a year ahead of most beginning musicians.
Remember, there is no abstract theory or sheet music. We´ll help you to start to connect your ear to the rhythm and the melody through direct practice by listening and repeating short, graded musical phrases, not reading about them or writing them!
This intensive, one month long ear training course consists of the first two sections of our Crucial Ear Training For Fiddlers Course – that is two and three note melody dictations.
