Fretting Hand

The Fretting Hand

How should I fret the notes?

If you are an experienced picker, looking to transition from sheet music to playing by ear, I recommend sticking with whatever fingering system you have been using.

If you are pretty new to banjo then one way to approach the fingering would be:

• fret notes on the first or second fret with your index finger

• fret notes on the third and fourth fret with your middle finger

• fret notes on the fifth fret with your ring finger
