Lesson 4: G major and D major

The G Major And The D Major Chord

Now, it’s time to dive into your ear training. Up to now, you have been working on playing just one chord with a clean sound and in time with the metronome. So let’s add a second chord and start changing between the two of them; here is the G major and the D major chord.

Keep in mind the following important points:

1. You can use the scaffolding methodology to help transition into this new layer of musical complexity and then remove it as you progress. Please refer to the scaffolding screen cast in the Course Preliminaries section if you need more information.

2. Start with the metronome at 50 bpm, and then slowly speed it up as you progress in accuracy. Do at least 10 dictations in a row correctly, before increasing the metronome speed by 3bpm-4bmp. Please refer to the musical gym screen cast in the Course Preliminaries section if you need more information.

3. Pay attention to the Octaves setting for each chord. The G needs the second octave, while the D needs the third. These octave settings are NOT important for guitarists to know to play music, but they are very important to pay attention to in order to set up the chord dictations properly in the app. See the screenshot for more details.
